Esprit Project 5603 - Joint Technical & Organisational Design of CIM Systems for SMEs

Objectives

The objective of this project is to establish the user needs and problems arising out of the introduction of computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) into small and medium size enterprises (SMEs).

Using questionnaires and plant visits, the problem SMEs face when designing and implementing CIM will be identified. The strengths and weaknesses of exiting tools will be assessed in areas of technical and organisational design of CIM systems. The problems of incorporating human factors in technology research and development projects will be identified, along with techniques for the economic justification of CIM.

The consortium will establish the deficiencies and future needs for CIM implementation in SMEs.
